ON-TRACK INDICATOR FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION OF HIGH INTEREST TO TEXAS EDUCATORS
SAN ANTONIO –Failure to graduate from high school is a widespread problem in the United States. In Texas, state officials have targeted increasing the proportion of students who graduate from high school as a high priority. One response to this challenge has been to develop on-track indicators to identify students who may be at risk of not graduating from high school so that districts and school personnel can intervene.

The Regional Educational Laboratory - Southwest at Edvance Research (REL Southwest) recently published a research study, Applying an on-track indicator for high school graduation: adapting the Consortium on Chicago School Research (CCSR) indicator for five Texas districts  that addresses this important priority.  This study is a first step in helping Texas educators develop an on-track indicator that accurately differentiates at the end of 9th grade between students are on-track to graduate on time, and those who are not.
