Afterschool
Get it Now: Ready to Use Afterschool Activities and Planning Tools
Presented at the 2011 BOOST Conference. Participants experienced a highly-engaging activity and walked away with the tools for planning one! They learned how to use these planning tools for creating rich learning experiences for students and adults and for providing “on-time” instructional training for their staff. After the session, participants were encouraged to go online and explore the Texas ACE (Afterschool Centers on Education) Activity Collection where they could download activities and lessons that support academics, enrichment, parental engagement, and college and career readiness.

Presented at the 2011 NAA Conference. Participants walkedaway with planning tools instrumental in creating engaging, high-quality afterschool activities. They experienced and accessed a collection of activities that blend core subject areas, and integrate service, global and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) learning.
21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant: Funding for Afterschool Services to Increase Student Achievement & Family Engagement
An overview of the Texas 21st Century Learning Center Grant was presented by the Texas Education Agency and Edvance Research to the participants of the TASA/TASB 2011 Mid-winter Conference.
Epic Learning and Collaboration: Bridging Community Expertise and Professional Development via an Online Portal for High-Quality Afterschool Programming
Edvance Research presented at the 2010 National 21st Century Community Learning Centers Conference. This presentation explored a multi-dimensional framework that uses an online portal and collaboration tools for creating a community of practitioners and contributors and providing professional development for Texas 21st CCLC grantees. Edvance Research explained replicable strategies that included podcasting and on-demand learning that bridged expertise with afterschool best practices.

Participants at the 2010 Texas Community Education Agency (TCEA) Annual Convention were introduced to TEA’s multi-dimensional strategy that uses an online portal for creating a community of practitioners and contributors and providing technical assistance to Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) grantees via podcasts, webinars, and on-demand courses.

This interactive session was presented at the Youth Development Initiative (YDI) 2010 Statewide Youth Professional Conference. It explored intentional programming tools used for creating high-quality afterschool programming that are focused and engaging for students across all grade levels and their families.

It also highlights information from a study conducted with Texas students in comparing how closely two national standards sets -- the ACT and the American Diploma Project (ADP) English language arts and reading college readiness standards -- align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills English Language arts and reading (TEKS ELAR) standards for grades 9-12. Middle School Matters Project
On September 27, 2011, Former First Lady Laura Bush spoke with Ann Curry of the Today Show about the Bush Institute and the Middle School Matters Project. The video continued after the Today Show from Education Nation with Mrs. Bush discussing The Middle School Matters Project at the 3:50 – 7:20 time on the video. Edvance Research will be providing overall project management for the initial phase of the project.
Podcasts
Turn it up! Podcasting How-Tos for Learning, Start to Finish Presented at the TXDLA 2011 Conference. Podcasts are an exciting, low-cost and time-efficient way for providing timely information and professional development on-demand. Participants learned to determine if a podcast is the appropriate medium, and how to plan, create, and broadcast one.

Leveraging the Power of SLDS: Building Capacity to Turn Data into Useful Information Recently Edvance Research participated in a Data Quality Campaign webinar on June 29, 2011. A discussion was held with Neal Gibson, the data system project manager for the Arkansas Education Department, and Kathleen Barfield, the Chief Administrative Officer for San Antonio, Texas-based Edvance Research, Inc. Other panelists included Rebecca Shah, Data Quality Campaign Senior Associate and Nancy Smith, Consultant with DataSmithSolutions.
